RE: Child Abuse PSA Project Assessment
Throughout this semester I have chosen to write about child abuse. For this specific project of creating a Public Service Announcement the path I took in explaining about child abuse was how parents who use corporal punishment in children may cause child abuse. The first aspect taken was to provide pictures of corporal punishment behavior, abused children, and statistics to prove that using forms of corporal punishment like slapping, hitting, pinching, and hitting the child with objects shouldn’t be used when punishing a child. These forms of physical punishment can easily be turned into child abuse. The audience for this assignment would be the students in the class but as well as people who are in interested in helping get the word across and hope that parents who choose not to use corporal punishment will lower the amount of children who are abused. While creating the overall product, I came across a few difficulties not to many though one of the difficulties was deciding on what type of PSA to create whether it is using video clips, photos or actual making up a scene to get the point across. The second was after deciding what I was going to do was to find appropriate photos to include in the PSA and trying to find statistics to use to show the audience how important this issue really is. The last difficulty was trying to find appropriate music and information to use in the video. The role that the audiences play is getting useful information about child abuse and maybe impacting the audience in the way that they can understand and help lower the amount of children who get abused by spreading the useful amount of information. How I selected this delicate issue was since my major is education I thought it would be quite interesting to write something that involved children. It has always came across my mind how many children aren’t treated right at home and in my opinion it is so heart breaking to know how many gets physical beaten every day. The most challenging aspect of the project was gathering the appropriate amount of information and pictures to prove a point. The most effective aspect of the PSA is creating the video to persuade the audience to understand that how even parents who don’t abuse their children but use corporal punishment could one day abuse their child for a various reasons like their temper got the best of them. For the design I made sure it was appropriate for this issue and by doing so I made sure the music was appropriate as well. Therefore my overall point for this particular issue and assignment was to hope that people can get an insight on child abuse and hopefully it would persuade them not to use corporal punishment as an only punishment. They should learn other ways of punishment and use a spanking or corporal punishment as a last resort. Importantly it isn’t too late to change.
